AFI Fest Features Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and New Film Screenings

The annual AFI Fest is set to captivate film enthusiasts with an engaging program that includes a special presentation of Quentin Tarantino's acclaimed feature, 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' This cinematic event will not only offer a unique viewing experience but also feature a conversational segment with the visionary director himself. The festival, known for its diverse selection, will additionally highlight the debut of new films, such as 'Wild Horse Nine,' screened in a classic 35mm format, and mark the expansion of Proof Inc., a prominent visualization company, with its new studio launch in New York.

A significant highlight of the AFI Fest 2026 is the exclusive screening of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' This event, scheduled for Friday, October 23, at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre, will be accompanied by a question-and-answer session with Tarantino. This special occasion is a prelude to David Fincher's forthcoming movie, 'The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth,' which sees Brad Pitt reprising his role as Cliff Booth, a character initially brought to life in Tarantino's 2019 masterpiece. Bob Gazzale, President and CEO of AFI, expressed pride in commemorating the origins of this cinematic universe, emphasizing the honor of hosting one of cinema's most revered storytellers.

The 40th installment of the AFI Fest is slated to run from October 21 to 25, presenting a comprehensive selection of over 150 films at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood. The festival will commence with the highly anticipated U.S. premiere of 'Wildwood' and conclude its programming with 'Being Heumann.' Furthermore, film aficionados will have the opportunity to experience Martin McDonagh's 'Wild Horse Nine' in a distinct 35mm presentation at The Alex Theatre in Glendale. This Searchlight Pictures release is set for screenings on November 5 and November 12. 'Wild Horse Nine,' a period piece set in 1973, follows two CIA operatives, portrayed by John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, on a mission to Easter Island just before the Chilean military coup. The film, which also stars Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits, and Posey, is inspired by the vibrant hues of Ektachrome film stock, aiming to immerse audiences in the visual aesthetic of 1973 Easter Island. The film is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on November 6.

In other industry news, Proof Inc., a leading production company specializing in visualization, has announced the inauguration of its first New York studio. This new facility's initial undertaking will be Ari Aster's upcoming film. Ron Frankel, the founder and CEO, will divide his time between the company's Los Angeles and New York locations to oversee operations. Proof Inc. has a distinguished track record, having contributed visualization services to major productions such as the 'Jurassic World' series, the 'Harry Potter' television adaptation, 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' and 'Stranger Things.' The New York branch joins existing studios in London and Australia, solidifying Proof Inc.'s global presence, which began in Los Angeles in 2002. Frankel remarked on the personal and professional significance of establishing the New York studio, reflecting on his early career in Manhattan's burgeoning 3D artistry scene and the city's current wealth of creative talent.
