Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Dominates Japanese Physical Sales Charts

Nintendo's newest tactical RPG, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, has achieved a remarkable debut in Japan, securing the top spot on the physical sales charts with over 127,000 units sold. This impressive performance highlights the enduring popularity of the Fire Emblem series and the strong market presence of the Nintendo Switch 2. The latest Famitsu report, while slightly delayed, showcases a vibrant week for new game releases and a consistent lead for Nintendo's flagship console in hardware sales.

The period between September 14th and 20th saw a flurry of new titles making their mark. Following closely behind Fortune's Weave, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter secured the second position on the Switch 2 with approximately 24,700 sales, while its PlayStation 5 counterpart also performed admirably with around 21,700 units. Another significant new entry, Another Eden Begins, found its place at number six on the Switch 2, selling close to 14,700 copies. Other notable releases, including Marvel's Wolverine on PS5, also contributed to a competitive week in the gaming market.

Beyond new game releases, the Japanese hardware market continued to be dominated by the Nintendo Switch 2, which sold an additional 34,341 units during this period, extending its substantial lead over competitors. The PlayStation 5, including its Digital Edition, collectively sold 7,847 units, with the Digital Edition accounting for the majority. Meanwhile, all three versions of the original Nintendo Switch combined for 5,705 units. In contrast, the Xbox Series S struggled, selling only 19 units, underscoring its limited penetration in the Japanese market.

The success of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is particularly noteworthy given its premium pricing and the relatively newer install base of the Switch 2 compared to its predecessor's launch periods. Industry analysts point out that while direct comparisons to previous titles like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem: Engage might suggest slightly lower initial physical sales, the increasing trend of digital purchases means the actual total sales figures, including digital copies, could be significantly higher. This strong launch positions Fortune's Weave as a major success for Nintendo, reinforcing the brand's power in the Japanese gaming landscape.
