Globo and Banijay's Endemol Shine Brasil Partner to Drive Global Entertainment IP

Brazilian media giant Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil, a subsidiary of Banijay Latin America, have entered into a significant strategic partnership for unscripted intellectual property. This collaboration is dedicated to conceptualizing and developing a new generation of franchises from Brazil, with the dual objective of creating original IP that possesses both global appeal and local relevance.

This ambitious agreement expands upon their extensive history of successful joint projects, which include highly popular productions such as “Big Brother Brasil,” “No Limite” (the Brazilian version of “Survivor”), “The Masked Singer,” “Dança dos Famosos” (“Dance of the Famous”), and “The Wall.” Both organizations are scheduled to have a prominent presence at Mipcom, a major international content market.

The synergy between Globo's proven capacity to generate and deliver Brazilian content that captivates over 70 million daily viewers and Endemol Shine Brasil's specialized knowledge, coupled with its access to the vast global network of its parent company, Banijay Entertainment, establishes a formidable alliance. Nani Freitas, CEO of Endemol Shine Brasil, articulated the profound significance of this collaboration, emphasizing its potential to foster a powerful environment for culture-defining entertainment and to connect audiences far beyond the local market. Amauri Soares, Executive Director of Globo Studios, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Globo’s increasing investment in creative development and its strategy of partnering with global experts like Endemol Shine Brasil and Banijay Entertainment to transform its studios into a hub for developing Brazilian intellectual properties with worldwide reach.

Under the terms of the agreement, Globo will receive preferential rights to broadcast the newly developed formats across its diverse channels and platforms within Brazil. Concurrently, Endemol Shine Brasil will lead the international distribution efforts, leveraging Banijay Entertainment’s extensive global network, which encompasses over 170 labels operating in 25 different territories. This arrangement establishes a direct pathway for Brazilian content to access international markets. Laurens Drillich, CEO of Banijay Latin America, expressed his excitement and pride in this partnership, acknowledging the inherent challenges of launching new original programming and recognizing Globo as a pivotal partner in this endeavor. Endemol Shine Brasil has been actively broadening its production footprint across various media, including traditional television, digital platforms, and innovative vertical microdramas. Notably, in April, the company collaborated with ReelShort to produce the Brazilian adaptation of “Married at First Sight,” one of the microdrama platform’s most successful titles. Additionally, a partnership with A Fábrica, another Banijay Americas company, was formed to create a series of vertical-format microdramas. Their latest docu-reality series, “Underground City” (“Cidade Subterrânea”), an original concept exploring São Paulo’s subway system, recently premiered on GNT and Globo’s streaming service, Globoplay, and was also featured on TV Globo’s program Fantástico. The Mipcom event is scheduled to take place from October 10th to 15th.

This collaboration underscores the increasing global demand for innovative and culturally rich entertainment content. By combining their unique strengths, Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil are poised to elevate Brazilian creativity onto the world stage, fostering cultural exchange and enriching the global entertainment landscape. Such strategic alliances exemplify the forward-thinking approach necessary to thrive in an interconnected world, where local stories can achieve universal appeal and inspire audiences across borders.
