New Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Promo Card Extends Magic: The Gathering Crossover

The highly successful collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy, which launched over a year ago, is far from over. Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix are extending this popular partnership with a new promotional card set to be released in 2027, maintaining the excitement surrounding the crossover.

During a recent Sony State of Play event, an extended gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding installment of Square Enix's FF7 remake series, was showcased. The publisher announced that the game will be released on April 8, 2027, across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Preorder details were also unveiled, including an unexpected treat for Magic enthusiasts: special day-one physical editions, available through participating retailers, will feature a foil FF7-themed Magic promo card. This card will depict an epic clash between Cloud Strife and Sephiroth, and will be available while supplies last.

This promotional card is a reprinting of "Final Showdown," a powerful white instant card originally featured as a mythic rare in 2024’s Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Its unique spree mechanic offers players a combination of three effects: neutralizing all creature abilities for a turn, bestowing invincibility upon a single creature, or obliterating every creature on the battlefield. This adaptability allows "Final Showdown" to serve as a flexible board wipe, capable of protecting a crucial creature for minimal mana or clearing the entire board at instant speed for more. The card's thematic representation, with its imagery of a looming meteor threatening planetary destruction, perfectly mirrors the stakes within the video game.

Notably, this isn't the first instance of Square Enix leveraging a Magic card to enhance video game preorders. Physical copies of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2, released in June, included a full-art foil Zack Fair promo card, also featuring artwork by Nomura. Beyond these individual promotions, Wizards has consistently released additional products post-launch. December 2025 saw the release of four Scene Boxes, reimagining iconic moments from various Final Fantasy titles, alongside a Chocobo Bundle packed with themed lands and alternate-art cards. With FF7 Revelation still months away, and given the history of these supplemental releases, the possibility of further Final Fantasy-themed Magic cards remains a strong possibility.

The collaborative spirit and continued expansion of this universe underscore the enduring appeal and creative potential when different forms of media intertwine.
