Sungrow to Power Chile's Observatorio Project with Advanced BESS

In a significant stride towards sustainable energy, Sungrow has announced its partnership with Verano Energy to equip the Observatorio project in Chile with a substantial 152MW/606MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). This collaboration underscores a shared vision for advancing renewable energy infrastructure and marks a pivotal moment for Chile's energy transition goals. The project is set to leverage Sungrow's cutting-edge PowerTitan 2.0 ESS solution, specifically engineered for a four-hour energy discharge duration, ensuring efficient and reliable power supply.

The Observatorio project integrates a 135MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, which will utilize Sungrow's SG350HX-20 inverters, alongside the high-capacity BESS. This comprehensive approach is designed to bolster the stability of Chile's power grid and significantly increase the proportion of renewable energy sources within its national energy mix. Both Sungrow and Verano Energy express confidence that this initiative will contribute substantially to Chile's ongoing efforts to build robust, future-proof energy infrastructure. A 25-year long-term service agreement further solidifies this commitment, guaranteeing sustained performance and operational excellence for the system.

Leaders from both companies emphasize the strategic importance of this venture. Gonzalo Feito, Sungrow's LATAM regional director, highlighted the trust placed in Sungrow's expertise and its role in accelerating Chile's energy shift. Similarly, Tomás Anuch, Verano Energy's chief operating officer, articulated that Observatorio reinforces their leadership in regional renewable energy generation, noting that integrated storage is key to unlocking the full potential of solar resources. This ensures greater grid flexibility and aligns with market demands for enhanced renewable energy integration, while a reliable technology partner like Sungrow provides assurance in achieving peak performance and dependability.

The deployment of large-scale energy storage systems like that at Observatorio is crucial for reducing energy curtailment, optimizing solar power generation, and enhancing the operational flexibility of electricity networks. This project exemplifies how strategic partnerships and advanced technology can drive forward the global energy transition, fostering a more sustainable and resilient future for energy consumption worldwide.
