Ford Recalls F-150 and Super Duty Trucks for Faulty Gauges
Jeremy ClarksonFord has announced a significant recall affecting more than 102,000 F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks. The core issue revolves around defective analog instrumentation, specifically the speedometer and tachometer, which could display inaccurate information while the vehicles are in operation. This widespread recall impacts a substantial number of 2025 and 2026 model year Super Duty vehicles, including the F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600, with a smaller portion of 2026 F-150s also included. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received documentation outlining this defect, highlighting the potential for erratic or stuck gauge readings. Despite the absence of warning lights for this particular malfunction, drivers with both digital and analog speed displays might observe discrepancies between the two.
The automotive manufacturer has not reported any accidents directly linked to this instrument cluster flaw. However, internal records indicate 18 warranty claims and 93 field reports related to the problem as of mid-September. The affected vehicles are not sequential by VIN, meaning owners will need to rely on official notifications or direct contact with Ford to verify if their truck is part of the recall. Owners are expected to receive initial notifications by October 30th, although the necessary replacement parts for the instrument clusters are not anticipated to be available until early December. Ford aims to inform owners about the remedy by December 11th, at which point authorized dealerships will replace the faulty instrument clusters without any cost to the vehicle owner.
This recall underscores the importance of accurate vehicle instrumentation for safe operation. While no accidents have been attributed to the faulty gauges yet, incorrect speed readings could pose a risk to drivers and others on the road. Ford's proactive measure to address this issue, even before the availability of replacement parts, demonstrates a commitment to vehicle safety and customer well-being. Owners are advised to monitor their mail for official recall notices and to contact a Ford or Lincoln dealership if they have concerns about their vehicle's status or require additional information.
