Oscar-Winning Writer Christopher Hampton to Head Tallinn Film Festival Jury

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) has announced its distinguished five-member jury for the 30th anniversary edition's official competition. Leading this prestigious panel is the acclaimed screenwriter and director Christopher Hampton, a recipient of two Academy Awards. He will be accompanied by an impressive roster of international film talent.

Christopher Hampton, celebrated for his adapted screenplays for films such as Dangerous Liaisons and The Father, also boasts a rich theatrical career, including works like Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Sunset Boulevard. His directorial endeavors encompass three feature films, demonstrating his versatile contributions to cinema. The jury further includes Lebanese producer Myriam Sassine, recognized for her work on films like Costa Brava, Lebanon, and her co-founding role in the Maskoon Fantastic Film Festival. Also joining is American cinematographer and visual effects expert David Stump, an Emmy and Scientific and Technical Academy Award winner, known for his contributions to productions such as Breaking Bad and the early X-Men movies. French producer Julie Billy, founder of June Films, brings her experience with acclaimed filmmakers and recent productions like Hafsia Herzi's The Little Sister. Rounding out the panel is Estonian actress Tiina Tauraite, whose credits include notable films like Autumn Ball.

The 30th edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is scheduled from November 6-22. The festival will commence with the screening of Viesturs Kairišs's film Ulya, a collaborative production involving Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and Lithuania, which made its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard program earlier this year. This international lineup of jurors highlights the festival's commitment to showcasing diverse cinematic perspectives and fostering global appreciation for the art of filmmaking.
