Edi Gathegi Joins 'Miami Vice '85' Ensemble Cast

Edi Gathegi, acclaimed for his portrayal of Mr. Terrific in the recent film "Superman," is set to join the distinguished cast of "Miami Vice '85." This Universal Pictures production is a cinematic rendition of the iconic television series.

Gathegi will appear alongside a notable ensemble of actors, including Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, and Andrew Schulz. Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed "Top Gun: Maverick" and "F1," is at the helm of this new feature, with filming scheduled to commence in November across locations in New York and Miami. The movie aims to capture the essence of Miami's glamorous yet corrupt 1980s landscape, revisiting the foundational narrative of the original show's pilot episode.

In this cinematic update, inspired by the television series that famously starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives James Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, Jordan will embody Tubbs, while Butler will take on the role of Crockett. Gathegi's character is described as a minor criminal entangled in schemes beyond his depth. The film, which will be formatted for IMAX, is slated for release on May 19, 2028, with Dylan Clark and Kosinski producing. Gathegi's past credits include "The Harder They Fall," "X-Men: First Class," and various "Twilight" saga films, in addition to his regular role on Apple TV's "For All Mankind."

The entertainment industry thrives on fresh interpretations of beloved stories, and the casting of talented actors like Edi Gathegi brings renewed excitement to classic narratives. Such projects highlight the enduring appeal of compelling characters and settings, offering audiences both nostalgia and innovative storytelling. This blend of the familiar with the new often leads to productions that not only honor their origins but also pave the way for future creative endeavors.
